Response Biomedical Corp. will grant holders of record at Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, rights to purchase units of the company, according to the Toronto Stock Exchange. One right will be issued for each share held on the record date. Each unit consists of one share and one share purchase warrant exercisable at 7.46 cents per share for five years from the closing of the offering.

Rights give existing shareholders a chance to proportionately buy shares in the new issue the company is putting out to raise more funds. The certificate showing this privilege is called a right.  It  gives the stockholders the first opportunity,  to buy the new securities.
